Sniff_jazzbox & andorDADA

sniff_jazzbox creates an audible city. It converts the wlan-waves into sound waves. The wlan conversion uses a streamsearch algorithm which was also used in and-or's netart works streamfishing and searchsongs. The first version worked on Nintendo DS. The extended versions for iphone and android let the user control instruments and speed of the melodies. The names of the captured hotspots contain playable tones of the musical notation system (c, d, e, f, g, a, h, c, fis, ces ...). As you walk, ride or drive through town you will inevitably encounter loads of hotspots which are accessible for your little machine and create melodies of locations in town for you. (only iOS 2.0 / Android in work) (Nintendo DS version)

and-or (CH)

and-or is an artgroup specializing in media art and gameArt. The group consists of René Bauer, Beat Suter and Mirjam Weder. The group operates since 2001 from Zurich, Switzerland. and-or explores new modes of interactivity and concreativity between machines and their human users. Simple but distinct concepts become game prototypes or playful media art. Digital data is everywhere these days but its impact often is not considered. We make this data and its impact visible to everyone, we question it and open up a discourse on digital boundaries.
