Friedrich von Borries (DE)


Dr. Friedrich von Borries, born in 1974, is an architect and teaches Design Theory and the Practice of Curation at Hamburg’s Hochschule für Bildende Kunst (University of Fine Arts). He studied architecture at the Berlin University of the Arts, the ISA St. Lux in Brussels, and at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), where he received his doctorate in 2004. From 2001 to 2003, he taught at Berlin's Technische Universität. From 2002 through 2005, he was a research associate at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and worked there, among other things, on the “Shrinking Cities” project. From 2007 to 2008, he was a guest researcher at the ETH Zürich and at MIT, as well as a guest professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. From 2003 to 2009, he co-ran the Berlin raumtaktik office with Matthias Böttger. In addition, he has been a Research Fellow at Goldsmiths College in London, a member of the Junge Akademie at the Berlin/Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2007 to 2012), as well as the commissary general of the German contribution to the 11th Architecture Biennale (2008) in Venice.

Hide & Seek (UK)


Hide&Seek is a London-based game design studio. We founded the UK’s first festival of pervasive games in London in 2007, which is now the Hide&Seek Weekender, taking place every summer on London’s South Bank. We run the Sandpit, a series of events around the UK and a thriving network of artists, game designers and players. And we create social games and playful experiences for clients in the commercial, public and cultural sectors. Our values are centred around our belief that play, as a theme, a way of being, and design tool, is integral to understanding how culture will develop in the 21st century.

Steffen P Walz (DE)

Steffen is a Vice-Chancellor's Senior Research Fellow at RMIT University, Australia. He is the founder--director of RMIT's Games & Experimental Entertainment Laboratory as well as the director of RMIT's GEElab Europe in Stuttgart, Germany, see www.geelab.rmit.edu.au. Steffen is an award winning game & interaction designer, an internationally recognized scholar & book author, a business consultant & an entrepreneur with a background in computer aided architectural design, cultural anthropology, creative web direction, TV satire writing, entertainment media production as well as attempted pop music stardom. Steffen earned his doctoral degree from the ETH Zurich in Switzerland, having researched the future of games and game-like activities across spaces and media. Not only has Steffen been creating several pioneering projects, e.g. the first urban exploration game service for tourists,http://rexplorer.arch.ethz.ch; or the first gamified website that can be navigated by playing arcade games at http://spw.playbe.com; or the first musician’s website to offer end customers the possibility to “pay what you like” at http://www.strom-musik.de in 2004. Steffen has also been providing strategy and design consulting with regards to game thinking and serious games. He is co-editor of "Space Time Play. Computer Games, Architecture and Urbanism: The Next Level" and author of "Toward a Ludic Architecture. The Space of Play and Games", published by the ETC Press. Steffen enjoys playing music, playing games and playing playing.

Nathalie Pozzi (IT)


Nathalie Pozzi is an architect whose projects cross the boundaries of art installation, architecture, and landscape. Trained in Venice, Stockholm and Helsinki, Pozzi exploresthe classical design of space and light and the elegant use of materials, while also incorporating social and ethnographic elements into her work. Her projects expand thepossibilities of architecture from building beautiful structures into a global and cultural act. Projects range from the short film “Home”, presented at the 4th International Festival for Architecture in Video in Florence, to design and production consulting for internationally renowned artists. Recent work with game designer Eric Zimmerman involves the creation of large-scale physical games, including Starry Heavens, exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 2011.
