Festival for Playful Public Spaces

Run and get to the top quickly, dodge the obstacles, use the fast lane and beat all the other visitors in the cinema! When you reach the top, use your elbows and push and shove the competitors back like you do in real life. They fall to the ground and have to start their career over. The whole audience of a cinema may take part in the runner's race on the big screen by using mobile phones. Just connect to the Hotspot and open your browser: simple controls allow you to move left or right. Now, just be weary about all these obstacles and all your opponents. They are as fierce competitors as you and want to reach the top and win as many points as possible. NanoRunners is a multiplayer race for up to 100 participants. All participants steer avatar runners with own smartphones. Simple and short, but lots of fun. And the audience turns into an interacting entity. http://www.and-or.ch/nanorunners (in progress)

and-or is an artgroup specializing in media art and gameArt. The group consists of René Bauer, Beat Suter and Mirjam Weder. The group operates since 2001 from Zurich, Switzerland. and-or explores new modes of interactivity and concreativity between machines and their human users. Simple but distinct concepts become game prototypes or playful media art. Digital data is everywhere these days but its impact often is not considered. We make this data and its impact visible to everyone, we question it and open up a discourse on digital boundaries.
